Instead, it just kinda became about Bittersteel hating Targs and exiled lords wanting to get their lands in Westeros back. But they don't! We aren't really given much indication that Daemon's sons and descendants would be particularly better kings than Daeron's, or that they would do anything in Westeros differently. I personally think it would be more interesting if the Blackfyres had, say, some actual ideological belief that a king should be or do X and Y, or that patrilineal succession is a bad system, and the crown should be won and not inherited. But once that rebellion gets put down and Blackfyres get exiled or when different Targaryens are on the throne, a lot of these reasons don't seem to necessarily apply anymore. I can see why someone would follow Daemon over Daeron based on some combination of these reasons plus the chance to increase the power of your house. He would just generally be more popular and a better king. The reasons given for Daemon Blackfyre's initial rebellion are given by things like:ĭaemon was more martial/more like a true king than Daeron Maybe this is something that will be answered in Fire and Blood 2 or Dunk and Egg books, but right now it annoys me. But something that slightly diminishes its brilliance for me is the lack of any coherent Blackfyre ideology (as far as I can make out). I'm someone who finds the Blackfyre rebellions and surrounding events/characters to be one of the most interesting parts of Westeros history.
